d Beim Cricket treffen zwei Teams mit je elf Spielern aufein- ander. Nur eine Mannschaft ist an der Reihe, Runs (Punkte) zu holen. Ein Spieldurchgang heisst Innings . Von der Mannschaft, die Runs erzielt, sind nur zwei Spieler, die Batsmen (Schlagmänner), zugleich auf dem Pitch, ei- nem etwa 20 Meter langen Bereich des Feldes. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt heisst das Team Schlagmannschaft . Gegner ist die Feldmannschaft, deren Fielder (Feldspieler) auf dem Rest des ovalen Feldes, das in der Regel zwischen 137 und 150 Meter Durchmesser hat, verteilt sind. Zudem befinden sich der Bowler (Werfer) und ein speziali- sierter Wicket-Keeper der Feldmannschaft auf dem Pitch. Die Batsmen stehen jeweils an einem Ende des Pitchs, hin- ter ihnen befindet sich je ein Wicket . Dies ist eine Holz- konstruktion aus drei Stumps (Stäben) und zwei Bails (Querstäben). Der Batsman verteidigt das Wicket mit seinem Schläger gegen den vom Bowler geworfenen Ball. Wird das Wicket getroffen, schei- det der betroffene Batsman aus dem Spiel aus. Aufgabe des Wicket-Keepers ist es, den Ball nach einem misslunge- nen Schlag des Batsman zu fangen und dem Bowler zu- rückzugeben. Der Bowler wirft pro Bats- man ein Over , das sind sechs nacheinander fol- gende Würfe. Dann wech- selt er ans andere Ende des Pitchs und wirft dem zweiten Batsman Bälle zu. Wenn es dem Batsman gelingt, den Ball möglichst weit aufs Feld hinaus zu schlagen und mit dem ihm gegen- überstehenden Batsman die Position auf dem Pitch zu tauschen, erzielt das Team ei- nen Run. Je öfter dies gelingt, bevor die Feldmann- schaft den Ball wieder zurück zum Bowler bringen kann, desto mehr Runs werden gezählt. Anders als die Feld- besteht die Schlagmannschaft nur aus Batsmen. Scheidet ein Batsman aus (in der Regel, weil sein Wicket getroffen wurde), wird er durch einen Kollegen er- setzt. Sind zehn Batsmen ausgeschieden, tauschen Schlag- und Feldmannschaft die Rollen. Wer am Ende des letzten Innings mehr Punkte hat, gewinnt das Spiel. Beim St. Moritz wird nach den „Twenty20-Regeln“ ge- spielt. Das bedeutet, dass jedes Team nur ein Innings spielt, die Spielabschnitte auf je 20 Over festgelegt sind und maxi- mal 75 Minuten dauern können. Cricket rules Innings, Overs & more e In cricket, two teams of eleven players compete against one another. Only one team attempts to score runs (points) at a time. A session of play is called an innings . Only two players from the team scoring runs, called the batsmen , are on the field at a time on an area approximately 20 metres in length called the pitch. This team is called the batting team . The opposing eleven is the fielding team, whose fielders are distributed around the rest of the oval field which is typically between 137 and 150 metres in diameter. The fielding team includes a bowler and a specialised wicket keeper on the pitch. Each of the batsmen stand facing one another at opposite ends of the pitch in front of a wicket . This is a wooden set of three stumps (upright wooden poles) with two bails (two smaller sticks placed on top of the three stumps). The bats- man defends the wicket with his bat against the ball bowled overarm by the bowler. If the wicket is hit, the batsman in question is eliminated from the game. The wicket keeper’s pur- pose is to catch the ball if the batsman misses and return it to the bowler. The bowler bowls six con- secutive balls from one end of the pitch to the batsman at the other end – a set of deliveries called an over . The bowler then switches to the other end of the pitch and bowls to the second batsman. If the batsman succeeds in hitting the ball as far as possible on the field and in switching position with the other batsman on the pitch, the team scores a run. Each time they do so before the fielding team returns the ball to the bowler, another run is scored. Unlike the fielding team, the batting team consists only of batsmen. If a batsman is dismissed (generally because their wicket has been hit been hit or the ball has been caught before touching the ground), they are replaced by a col- league. Once ten batsmen have been dismissed, the batting and fielding teams exchange roles. The team with the most runs at the end of the last innings wins the match. In St. Moritz, the “Twenty20” format of cricket will be played. This means that each team will play one innings, that the two periods of play will each be limited to twenty overs and that each innings can last a maximum of 75 minutes.
