T E X T Oliver Armknecht ON THE CATWALK d Als sie sich lasziv die langen Handschuhe auszog, war es um den Rest der Welt geschehen: Szenen wie diese aus „Gilda“ oder auch „Die Lady von Shanghai“ machten Rita Hayworth in den 1940ern zu einem der grössten Stars ihrer Zeit. Und zu einer absolu- tenTraumfrau.Als die „Liebesgöttin“ – so ihr damaliger Spitzname – 1948 nach Europa kam, war sie schon so bekannt, dass sie nirgends auftreten konnte, ohne gleich von Verehrern umzingelt zu werden. Im Badruttʼs Palace Hotel fand sie jedoch die nötige Ruhe und Privat- sphäre. Regelmässig kam sie mit ihrem damaligen Mann, dem pa- kistanischen Prinzen Ali Khan, im Winter nach St. Moritz, um dort dem Trubel zu entkommen und ungestört Ski zu fahren. Bald schon war die Schauspielerin im Badrutt’s Palace Hotel so zu Hause, dass sie Teil der Familie von Hans Badrutt wurde. Vor allem in den schwierigen Phasen ihres turbulenten Lebens fandHayworthwie alle anderen Stars hier Geborgenheit oder Trost. Aber auch imAlltag wa- ren sich die Schauspiellegende und die Familie sehr zugetan. So holte Rita Hayworth eines Tages den kleinen Hansjürg von der Schule ab und sorgte natürlich für viel Aufruhr. Seine Mitschüler, besonders die Jungen, konnten es kaum glauben, diesem wunderbaren Hollywood- star so nahezukommen. When the “Goddess of Love” – as she was known – came to Europe in 1948, she was already so famous that she could not appear anywhere without being immediately surrounded by admirers. It was the Bad- ruttʼs Palace Hotel, however, that provided the peace and privacy she craved. In winter, she was a regular visitor with her then husband, the Pakistani prince Aly Khan, to St. Moritz, where she was able to escape her hectic existence and ski in peace. It wasn’t long before the actress was so at home at the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel that she became one of the family. It was during the difficult times in her turbulent life in particular that Rita Hayworth, like a host of other stars, felt secure and comfortable here. But the legend of the silver screen and the Badrutt family were also very close in everyday life. One day, for instance, it was Rita Hayworth who picked up little Hansjürg from school, and naturally caused quite a stir.
